Avis Mae Byrd Walker was born May 29, 1935 in Tenneha, Texas to the parentage of Omie Byrd and Inez Shrubs Byrd.  She attended Tenneha Schools before her family relocated to Tyler, Texas.

She accepted Christ at an early age and was a dedicated member of Liberty Baptist Church over 58 years.  She served in many capacities at the church.

She was married to R. E. Walker for 67 years years he preceded her in death. To the union three sons were born, Robert, Leslie and Burt.

Avis was preceded in death by her parents,  Omie and Inez Byrd; Husband R E Walker, son Robert and one sister Margaret Byrd.

She was an avid reader and loved to work in her garden.

Those left to cherish her memories  are:  Two sons, Leslie Walker (Saundra) and Burt Walker (Lisa); sisters Pearlie B Moore, Alice Marie Cooper, Ezell Byrd Martin, Stella R. Byrd, Odessa Byrd Johnson and Teresa Kindle (Herbert).  Brothers, Jessy Byrd, Omie Bryd, Jr. (Mary), Alvin Byrd and Willie Byrd.  She also leaves seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. And many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
