IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Barbara Ann
Hendricks
August 23, 1953 – November 12, 2024
Barbara "Bob" Ann Hendricks was born to Hulene and Charles Hendricks, Sr. On August 23, 1953 in Chandler, Texas. She attended Chandler, Brownsboro, and Van public schools. Growing up in Chandler, she was a lifelong member of Macedonia Baptist Church, and was a member of the choir. If you knew Barbara, you knew that she had a passion for sewing. She was an accomplished seamstress, and made most of her mother's clothing , as well as sewing beautiful clothing for family and friends in the community. It has been said that Barbara started out sewing as a little girl by creating and designing outfits for hers and her cousins dolls. She was self-taught, and learned how to sew easily. She honed and perfected her sewing talents working for Vassarette's lingerie company in Athens, Texas.
After years of working as a seamstress, Barbara began working for Loggins Meat Company in Tyler, Texas as a meat packer, a job that she would work at for 25 plus years. After taking a short break from Loggins, she worked as head cook at Chandler Nursing Home in Chandler, Texas. She was an excellent cook and baker, and cooked most of the family meals at home. To top it off, she was a skilled artist who had a talent for drawing. She was a jack of all trades, and was loved by the community. She had a generous and loving heart, and would give you the shirt off of her back if you needed it.
And if you didn't think she had enough time in the day to do anything else you would be wrong. Barbara spent her weekends participating as a member of the Valley Blues Riding Club alongside her sister Wanda. They loved dressing up in their cowgirl hats, boots and jeans and attending trail rides all around the East Texas area. Barbara loved marching with the horses and the crew in the annual Juneteenth parade with her Valley Blues Family. The club members affectionately nicknamed her "Sweetie".
The greatest job that Barbara ever had was that of being a loving Mother to her four children, a grandmother and great-grandmother to her grandchildren, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. Barbara "Bob" Ann Hendricks is preceded in death by her parents Hulene and Charles Hendricks, Sr., sister Carolyn Hendricks, brothers Charles Hendricks Jr., Rodney Hendricks, and Marshall Frater. She is survived by her sons Christopher Hendricks, Damian Hendricks, Darrel Hendricks, and daughter Latonyia Hendricks. She also leaves behind 7 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and 12 siblings (Ervin Hendricks, Charlean Pettigrew, Wanda Hendricks, Ricky Hendricks, Larry Hendricks, Sharlette Brooks, Sandra Frater-Mackey, Jimmy Frater, Lonnie Frater, Pamela Frater, Mike Frater, and Janet Frater), and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
