OBITUARY
Born: February 6, 1930 in Bowie County
Parents: The late Charlie Alexander and Evenia Rose Alexander
Schools Attended: Arkadelphia Community School and graduated Texas College, Tyler with a BA degree.
Joined in holy matrimony to Osborne Wesley McAfee and they enjoyed each other until he preceded her in death on February 15, 2008.
Work Affiliation: Taught at New Boston Central High School. Moved to Tyler and worked for Tyler Independent School District at Birdwell Elementary School for a number of years before retiring.
Church Affiliation: Greater St. Mary Baptist Church, Tyler, TX. She served as Deaconess and Secretary/Treasurer of the Usher Board and was a member of the kitchen committee and Senior Choir .
Sorority Affiliation: Ms. McAfee was initiated into the Tyler Alumnae Chapter, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated in the spring of 1970. She received her " 50 year milestone" pin and plaque in the spring of 2020. She was a faithful member serving on numerous committees. Deltas affectionately called her "Soror Sunshine" because of her sweet demeanor and for her committed service as Chair of the Courtesy Committee.
Life's Pleasures: Ms. McAfee enjoyed her morning constitution: reading the newspaper and working the Crossword and Sudoku in ink, in perfect penmanship. Though they lived 100 miles away, she and her sister Nettie talked multiple times a day loved to compare Crossword answers every night. She was a fierce Spade player and enjoyed games with dear friends ( Johnnie Seastrunk , Win i fred Johnson and Atharie Nelson) with games lasting until the wee hours of the morning. She enjoyed cruises and trips to Las Vegas as often as possible. She enjoyed attending sorority conventions and regional conferences. She loved to read and loved sending greeting cards, remembering birthdays and special occasions. She loved dressing, as all proper Southern wom en did, from head to toe for all occasions; everything starched and ironed. If you saw her at 8:00 in the morning she had on low heals and hose. She had a special neighbor that looked after each other, Floyd and Ruth Nelson. Last but not least, her greatest life's pleasure was bring ing joy to others. With her smile and a kiss on the cheek, you knew everything was going to be alright.
After a brief illness, Ms. McAfee departed this life on Thursday, September 24, 2020 at Christus Trinity Mother Frances Hospital.
Survivors include her loving sister Nettie Alexander Sheppard, New Boston; a "son" born in her heart , Michael G. (Jackie) Hubbard, Tyler; family she called her own "The Hubbards "; brother-in-law Rudolph (Ruth) McAfee, Kilgore; host of cousins and other relatives and friends.
