Mrs. Bessie Eunice Goss Mumphrey was born in Smith County on October 18, 1920 to the late Benjamin Goss and Lola Stokes Goss. Mrs. Mumphrey transitioned on Saturday, September 28, 2019.
Mrs. Mumphrey was a graduate of Emmett Scott High School, Tyler, Texas. She was united in Holy Matrimony to her late husband, Maso Mumphrey on November 28, 1943. She gained employment from the then, Mattie Jones Elementary School in Tyler , where she retired as a cook. Mrs. Mumphrey was a longtime member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses.
One of Mrs. Mumphrey's greatest joys in life were cooking and baking. She was known for her famous tea cake cookies. She found great pleasure in feeding others and watching you enjoy what she prepared.
She is preceded in death by her parents, three sisters – G eorgia, Maudie and Lizzie and one brother, Louis. She was also preceded in death by two sons – Rogers and James, daughter-in-law, Sandra and two grandsons, Gregory and Kendrick.
She leaves to cherish her memories, a brother, Bennie Goss , Sr. ( Lubertha ), her son Troy S. Mumphrey (Billie) and a daughter, Denise Mumphrey all of Tyler. She has two grandchildren Cory Mumphrey ( Tiffenii ) and Ebony Mumphrey Oliver (Byron) of Tyler. Five great grandchildren, Jhayla , Taliyah, Bianca, Mason and Camden and a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
