Mr. Charles E. Coleman Jr. was born to Lawyer Charles Coleman Sr. and Helen Johnson Coleman on September 24. 1948 in St. Louis, Missouri. He attended Addie C. Smith Kindergarten, Peete Elementary, Emmett J Scott High School as a member of the band and graduated from John Tyler High School in Tyler, Texas. He graduated from Tyler Junior College, attended The University of Texas in Austin and graduated from Langston University in Langston, Oklahoma.
During his time at Tyler Junior College he served an officer for the first black student council as well as serving as the student representative of that organization.
Charles married Ervin Jean (Moore) Coleman, and to this union three children were born, Charles E. Coleman III, Helena C. Coleman, and Carlos J. Coleman. He was a dedicated husband, loving father, great friend and community leader. He served as Executive Director of several Occupational Industrial Centers (OIC). For many years he was Executive Director of the Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce. He joined True Vine Baptist Church at an early age. He was a proud and dedicated member of The Omega PSI PHI Fraternity Inc. where he served as Basileus of the Sigma Omicron Chapter, Tyler, Texas until he retired from that position. Charles belonged to numerous community and professional organizations with many recognitions.
Proceeded in death, his parents Lawyer Charles Coleman, Helen Coleman, and a nephew Jimmy Franklin.
Leaving to cherish his wife Ervin Jean Coleman. His children, Charles E. Coleman and wife, Pamela, Helena Coleman, and Carlos Coleman. His grandchildren- Anissa Pearson, Isaiah Pearson, Charles E. Coleman IV, Ahlayla and Ayinde Lollar. Sisters- Lynda Franklin and Clara Thomas and husband, Elzie; Two brother in laws, Roy L. Moore, Dewayne Moore and wife Demetra; Two sister in laws, Jewel F. Waters, and Ruby N. Traylor, and a host of other relatives and friends.
