IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Clotene Starks
Young
September 23, 1936 – July 29, 2021
Clotene Starks was born to Governor and Luretha Starks on September 23, 1936 in Tyler (Coles Hill) Texas. After a lengthy illness, Clotene passed away and went to be with the Lord on July 29, 2021.
Her early education was acquired in the Jackson Public Schools, Jackson Heights Community. After graduation from Jackson High School, Clotene attended Texas College, receiving her Bachelor's Degree. At Texas College, she met Lewis D. Young, whom she eventually married. To this union, two children were born and a family unit was created. For over 30 years, Clotene worked in the Tyler Independent School District culminating her service as an Administrative Assistant at Dogan Middle School. After retirement, Clotene increased her community service involvement with organizations such as AARP where she even served as president.
Clotene's faith in God was professed at an early age at Coles Hill C.M.E. Church. Her membership remained at Coles Hill until she joined her husband as a member of Prairie Creek C.M.E. Church. Membership at Prairie Creek extended to all areas of the church. However, her most prized duty was church secretary. She faithfully and efficiently held this position for over 60 years. Clotene was also an active member of the Heroines of Jericho, holding several leadership positions. Yet, her most cherished titles were Servant of God, Wife, Mother, Granny and friend!
Clotene leaves to cherish her memories her husband of 62 years, Lewis; children, Reginald (Deidre) and Djuana Young; grandchildren, Phillip D. Young, Jonathan E. Young and Avery E. Young. She also leaves a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
Clotene was preceded in death by her parents Governor and Luretha Starks; sister, Georgia Mae Porter; and brothers, Roy C. Starks and Benny Starks.
