Don Dorsey passed away peacefully on June 8th, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. Born in Tyler, Texas, to the union of Aaron and Agnes Dorsey, Don spent his early years in Tyler, Texas before moving to Dallas, where he graduated from James Madison High School in 1963. He later relocated to California and earned a Bachelor's degree in Sociology from California State University, Long Beach, in 1972.
Don dedicated much of his life to serving and mentoring at-risk youth in Los Angeles. He began his career with Teen Post, a Los Angeles-based youth program focused on empowering and supporting at-risk youth through education, mentorship, and community outreach. He later worked with the Los Angeles Unified School District, providing dedicated support to special needs students, where he was known for his patience, empathy, and unwavering advocacy. Don went on to serve for 18 years with Los Angeles County Children's Services, continuing his lifelong mission to uplift vulnerable children and families. After retiring, Don returned to Dallas, Texas, where he began a new chapter pursuing real estate and reconnecting with his roots.
Don is survived by his devoted wife, Arevia Ann Dorsey; his brother, Sammie Dorsey;and his beloved children: daughters Rosalind(McCarthy) Houston, Donna(English) and Tracy(Bennett) Rancho Cucamonga, and sons Darryl (Los Angeles), Kevin (Long Beach Ca), Rodney (Granbury Tx), Kyle and David (Desoto Tx), LeBarrion (Hemet Ca), and Don Alvin Dorsey II (Banning Ca). Grandchildren: Ronnette, Johnnette, Tonjaneka, Bryce, Blake ,Kelvin, Kevin Jr ,Shane, Skylar, Tanira, Lebarrion Jr, Tylan, Iyanna. He also leaves behind a loving legacy of four great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren and host of relatives and friends.
He will be remembered for his gentle strength, deep compassion, and unwavering commitment to family, youth, and community. Don's life work and loving presence left an indelible mark on all who knew him.
