Doris Battles Young affectionately known to many as " Baby " was born to Mr. Jack Battles and Ms. Maggie Reese on April 7, 1928 in Tyler, Texas. She departed this life on April 21, 2021.
Doris received her education in the Tyler Independent School District. She worked tirelessly at Woldert Canning Company, Lindale. Texas and Sterling Faucet Company in Tyler, Texas until retirement.
She was raised in a Christian home and accepted Christ at an early age and united with Bethlehem Baptist Church in Flint, Texas. She joined Liberty Baptist Church in Tyler, Texas. In 1971, she was one of the founding members and became a charter member of Progressive Baptist Church Tyler, Texas under the Pastorate of the Late Reverend S. K. Bizzell. Along with others in preparation for the opening of Progressive Baptist Church, she pulled nails and hammered down new flooring. She loved her church from the very beginning of its existence as a faith community. Doris served as a faithful church member in various capacities, such as Deaconess, choir member and other caring ministries.
Doris was a loving and devoted wife "Doris" to her husband John L. Young, mother "Baby" to her sons, and "Grandmama" to her grandchildren . She dedicated her time and attention, investing in her family and dotting on her grandchildren to make sure their needs were met. In her family she leaves behind a legacy for those who passionately serve God and will carry on her faith for generations to come.
She will be deeply missed by her family and all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, her husband John L Young in 2011, her son Ray Anthony Williams (Belinda), and her brother Otha Chilton.
Her legacy will live on in the lives of her three sons, DeVoe Williams, Reverend Larry Williams, and Billy W. Williams. She also leaves to deeply harbor and cultivate her precious memories which includes her three grandsons, three granddaughters, nine great grandsons, three great granddaughters, and two great-great granddaughters. And many special nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
