The only child born to Charles and Christine (Blakey) Matthews, Dorothy Carolyn Matthews Brown on March 28, 1936.

​Dorothy attended and completed elementary, junior high, and high school education at Fouke-Hawkins Colored School at the age of 16. She is a graduate of Jarvis Christion College, were she obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Education.

​Dorothy accepted Christ at an early age while attending Bethlehem United Methodist Church. She was the Youth Choir Director. After moving to Tyler she attended Tyler First United Methodist Church.

Marriage vows were exchanged between Dorothy and Walter Brown, Sr. and to this union 3 children were born. Walter, Jr., Charles I, and Carolyn Brown.

Work History included: Jarvis Christian College in Dietary Department, Levi Strauss, Daingerfield Independent School District as a Home Economics Teacher, College Dorm Director at Jarvis Christian College, Educator at Tyler First United Methodist Church Daycare, and Director of Ebenezer Daycare.

Dorothy was a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc.

To cherish her memories, Dorothy Carolyn Brown is survived by Walter, Jr., Charles I, and Carolyn Brown. 70 Grandchildren, 13 Great-grandchildren, and 1 Grand-pup (Diamond).

Dorothy Brown was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Christine Matthews, Daughter-in-law; Sharon Anderson Brown, Christopher Anderson, and Cambryn-EunieceAnderson/ Mcalister.
