IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Elgie Lene
Redwine-Mosley
July 15, 1940 – September 1, 2020
Elgie Lene Crawford Redwine-Mosley was born July 15, 1940. She was the only daughter of the late Alvesta and Allen "Chap" Crawford and the devoted stepdaughter of James Powell. At an early age, Elgie joined The Greater Saint Mary Baptist Church under Rev. Charlie Williams. She loved her church and was involved in many ministries (Williams Gospel Choir, Women's Choir, Greeter, Women's Mission, Mass Choir, and many more). Elgie was quite a singer and was often requested to sing at different functions. Her spirited songs and strong Soprano II voice lifted many souls.
Elgie graduated from Emmett J. Scott High School in 1958. Attending school reunions were the highlight of her summers. Being with her classmates was a joy and a time of reminiscing.
Following graduation, she followed her passion and attended Nan Travis Nursing school in Jacksonville, Texas with her dear friend/cousin Shirley Lee. The two shared many adventures and events as they pursued the degrees. Elgie, always, had an interest in helping others and that was her passion and her ministry. She worked for Dr. T. J. Taliaferro, later moving to Hearthstone Nursing Home, Woodcreek Nursing Home, Briarcliff Nursing Home, and Lindale Nursing Home. Elgie had a heart for working with geriatric patients and many family members and friends would often call her for medical advice.
Elgie married Flenell Redwine April 4, 1959 and to this union two children were born: Roslyn Rachelle and Roderick Flenell. Their union lasted 28 years until his untimely death, September 10, 1987.
During their marriage, they made a point of taking family vacations by car and traveling to such places as California, New York, Florida, and many other places. On Sunday evenings, it was family time driving around Tyler and in the "country" (off the old Kilgore highway).
Many years later, she married Palmer Mosley, Jr. and to this day, they have been married for 23 years. Palmer came to be a second father and grandfather to her children and grandchildren. And, she became a loving stepparent to his children: Lisa, Aaron, Keith, and Tracey and their children. Between the two of them, there was always a house full of good cooking, love, and laughter (especially during the holidays).
Elgie was preceded in death by her mother, Alvesta Jones Powell, father, Allen Crawford, stepfather, James Powell, sister, Linda Crawford Brooks.
Elgie leaves to celebrate her homegoing and to cherish her memory her loving husband, Palmer Mosley, Jr, daughter Roslyn, son Roderick, a devoted and loving daughter-in-law Rhyne; grandchildren: Sherri Burton, Keland (Tia) Staley, Nic (Brittney) Redwine, Raya Staley, Jasmine Martin, Alexis Redwine, and Alecia Martin. Grandchildren: Aysia, NaKyra, Isaiah, Jr., Jaida, Leah, Travion, Kennedi, Charleigh, and Matthew. Great-grandson: Dominic.
Stepchildren: Aaron Mosley, Felecia (Ravon) Mosley-Pettigrew, Vernon Keith (Tara) Mosley, Raymond Tracy Mosley. And, a host of step-grand and great-grandchildren whom she loved as her own.
Stepsisters: Bonnie Petty and M.V. Wynn (Robert). Her cousin Lenell Choice who was more like a brother (since they were only children),is Monnie Jean Jones-Duodu (Mark), loving and devoted best friends, Mary H. Hubbard, and Shirley Lee (Atlanta, Ga). Sister-in-law, Gladys Redwine, nieces and nephews, and a myriad of other relatives and friends, co-workers.
Elgie touched many lives through her caring and loving spirit. She mentored many throughout her nursing career and was held in high esteem by her work ethic, her no-nonsense demeanor when it came to caring for patients, and her generosity in giving of her time and talents.
