IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Epmeliues
Morris
March 6, 1930 – March 31, 2025
Epmeliues "Skin" Byars Morris was born on March 6, 1930, to Rufus and Vermie Myrtle Byars in Flint, Texas. She was the middle child of three children. Epmeliues accepted Christ at an early age at Galilee Baptist Church. She was a faithful member her entire life and served until her health declined. She was also a devoted follower of Christ who was faithful in attendance and possessed an unwavering commitment to service as an usher, choir member, kitchen server, Chairman of the Deaconesses, and Chairman of Missions. She touched many lives through her kindness, prayers and encouragement.
Epmeliues graduated from Stanton High School. She worked for the City of Tyler 30 +years until her retirement. She was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need and committed her life to serving her neighbors and the community. She developed and maintained strong ties with Pine Cove and was a member of Heroines of Jericho. Her commitment to community was evident when she suffered serious injuries while extinguishing a small fire that prevented any neighborhood property loss.
Epmeliues was affectionately nicknamed "Skin" by her grandfather. She was a woman of many talents and proficient in a wide range of skills. She was a multi-talented woman who enjoyed cooking, fishing, driving her boat and tending to the family burial grounds. She could often be found on her John Deere mower, gardening, maintaining her property, sowing and quilting. Although not licensed, she was a "nurse" to many providing
instructions that healed ailments of all kinds. She embodied the qualities of a Proverbs 31 woman, and her presence brought joy, left laughter and smiles with those she encountered. Many people can describe her as feisty, determined and never shy to voice her opinion.
Epmeliues met and married Thurman Morris and to this union two children were born, Darrell Carl Morris and Barbara Lynn Glover. Her dedication as a mother and wife were unwavering. Her loyalty was unshakeable, strong willed and her love for her family was deep and resolute. She upheld strong values such as the importance of hard work and education. For Epmeliues, excellence was not just a goal; it was the standard and she instilled this mindset in her family. To her grandchildren she is known as "Mama Dear" and she left memories that will be treasured for a lifetime.
Epmeliues is preceded in death by her husband, Thurman Morris; son, Darrell Carl Morris; parents, Rufus and Vermie Myrtle Byars; sisters, Stella Black (Reverand Bernard Black) and Jeroldean Byars Hull.
