Freddie Lee Hughes was born July 13 th , 1939 in St. Louis, Missouri. He was the first of six children born to Fred and Geneva Hughes-Cason. Both parents, grandparents, 2 brothers:Willard Cason and Arthur Cason; 1 sister Dorothy Cason Reeves preceded him death.

At an early age, Freddie confessed his faith in Jesus Christ, received him as his savior and was baptized at Grace Missionary Baptist Church. He later united with Friendship Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend Hawkins and Reverend Herbert Bector, Sr in St. Louis, Missouri. In 2007, he joined Mesquite Friendship Baptist Church in Mesquite, Texas under the leadership of Pastor Terry Turner.

Education was highly stressed within his family and community. Freddie acquired his education through the St. Louis City and County Public Schools;Elmwood Elementary and Hoech Middle School. Due to segregation he attended Douglas High School and graduated from Ritenour High School in 1958. He was one of three black students to graduate in his class. He was a great basketball player, receiving several awards and accolades. Freddie was drafted into the United States Army in December 1961. During his tenure, he served as a military policeman and received several commendations for his skills as a rifle and pistol marksman. He served two years, eleven months and six days. He was stationed in Frankfurt, Germany and other military bases from 1961-1964.

After serving in the Army, he returned to St. Louis, Missouri and was employed by Chrysler Corporation in Fenton, Missouri for many years before taking a leave to further his education. In 1970 he attended AM&N College (now the University of Arkansas Pine Bluff). It was during this significant period of his life that he met Geraldine Harris, who became the "Love of his Life". They were married May 29, 1971. To this union, four beautiful children were united as one: Tyrone, Yolanda, Stacey (deceased) and Freddie. Freddie and Geraldine were married 53 years.

In 1991, the Chrysler plant in St. Louis closed and Freddie was transferred to the Chrysler Plant Depot in Dallas, Texas. Here, he served in many capacities: Assembly Lineman, Inspector, Shop Chairman for the United Auto workers (UAW) Local 2360.In 2013, he was the International Representative for Local 2360.

In March 23, 2022, Freddie retired from Stellantis, LLC Corp (formerly Chrysler Corp.), completing 58 years of dedicated service, which is an significant achievement in today's workplace. "He loved his job"!!!.

He leaves to cherish his memories: His loving and devoted wife, Geraldine Harris Hughes; sons: Tyrone Jackson, Freddie Champion (Brittany) both of Dallas. Daughter Yolanda Caine; One brother, Theophilus Earl Cason (Rose) and sister Shirley McLemore both of St. Louis, MO. Seven grandchildren, three great grandchildren and one great grand child "TRU" born September 29, 2024.

He also leaves many cousins, family and lifelong friends. Freddie Hughes demonstrated his true love for everyone, especially for family, friends and workforce family. He will be missed. His life's journey speaks for itself. On Sunday, September 1, 2024, Freddie transitioned peacefully from his earthly home to his eternal rest in the everlasting arms of God.
