Mr. James Simmons was born January 5, 1939 in Monticello, Florida to John Simmons and Exand Long Simmons.

He attended Howard Academy High School and upon graduating in 1957 enlisted into the United States Army. He later married Nellie Hill in July 1965.  They later moved to Tyler, Texas where he resided until death.  In this union were born three children, Beverly, Kenneth and Kevin.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Exand Simmons; siblings Harold, Deliah and Sylvester.

James life will be remembered by his wife, Nellie Long Simmons, Tyler, TX; daughter Beverly Simmons Coleman (Brad) Tyler, TX; two sons Kenneth Simmons (Marilu) and Kevin Simmons (Monisha) all of Dallas/Ft. Worth. 4 grandkids, Jaren, Tamera, Jamal and Jada; 3great grand, Camden, Kia and Sofia.  Also on brother John Simmons, Gulfport, MS. A host of nieces, nephews and lifelong friends.
