Jeanetta Faye Wallace Flowers was born to the late Mack Wallace, Sr. And Justine Preston Biggs on September 15, 1939, in Tyler, Texas. She was educated through Tyler ISD and graduated from Emmett Scott High School in 1957. Jean was a lifelong member of North Star Baptist Church, which was founded by her grandfather, the late Rev. Michael Bates Preston.

Jean Flowers worked at Sterling Faucet and Carrier then finally at General Electric (Trane) where she retired after 35 Years. Jean was elected secretary of IUE-CWA where she served 16 years diligently. She became involved with her community when her children were in elementary school, and she joined the PTA under the mentorship of Ms. Dorothy Lee, a pillar in the community. The push from Ms. Lee resulted in Jean being catapulted into a lifelong role as an outstanding activist. Soon after, the United Steel Workers and Machines visited Tyler to push Union organization here. In efforts to improve working conditions and health insurance premiums, Jean decided to help promote the Union, and it was
voted in! She was so happy because she felt like she made a difference, as for her service, this was only the beginning. There were many issues to be addressed: wages, work hours, working conditions and healthcare, to name a few. One at a time, she fought for them all! A. Philip Randolph Institute was also introduced to Ms. Flowers at this time. This organization focused on the importance of voting for Blacks and training future Black leaders to be a voice for their communities. This became a great part of her life. She was also formerly the recording secretary for the State APRI, and a State Chapter APRI Trustee. Jean was a part of too many organizations to list but in each one she played a vital role that created change and inspired others. Voter education and Labor Unions led her to various walks of life including: Participation in two marches in Washington for human rights, Rallies in Washington for fair wages and better healthcare ,Rallies at the Texas State Capitol for workers compensation and healthcare ,Campaigns for countless local, state and national candidates, Attendance at the Inauguration for Barack Obama, the 44th President of the United States of America, Participated in several IUE-CWA Trane contract negotiations.

The Matriarch of her family, Jean was the mother of six wonderful children, whom she loved with her whole heart. She showed her children by example how to love Christ, be proud of their family's heritage and to chase their dreams. This message was passed on to her 11 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. There was not anything more important to Jean than her family. She left the way she lived, imparting and interceding for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Justine Preston Biggs and Mack Henry Wallace, Sr. Stepfather Oliver Biggs, Sr., granddaughter Jasmine Flowers, and siblings Baby Ruth Biggs, Jerry Wallace, Mack Wallace, Jr., Charles Wayne Biggs (Nasir Ziyad), and Shirley McKellar. In anticipation of a glorious reunion with God she was called home on April 13, 2022, at 7:58pm.

She leaves to cherish her memory three daughters, Donna Walton, Brenda Phillips, and Sharon Flowers, three sons, Byron Flowers, Sr. (Darlene), Michael Flowers (Cassandra), and Raymond Flowers, siblings Pearlie Jones (Jimmy), Oliver, Biggs, Jr. (Brenda) and Harold Biggs (Maria), Bonus Daughter- Carla Miller Wickware, God-daughter LaKeidra Hartsfield as well as, 11 grandchildren, 17 great- grandchildren, loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of dear friends. Henceforth she finished her assignment here on earth and will forever live in eternity.
