Swan
April 8, 1942 – March 23, 2021
The sun rose on April 7, 1942, when Jimmie Swan was born to his loving parents, Burl Swan Sr. and Onnie Mae Swan, in Hot Springs Arkansas.
He attended Langston High School and enlisted into the United States Marine Corp in 1961. While in the Marines he was awarded the Rifle Sharpshooter Badge, Pistol Marksman's Badge, and the Good Conduct Medal. He trained in Guerrilla Warfare and was a Rifle Instructor and served as a Military Police Officer.
During his service, he met Nellene McDuffy at the Seventh-Day Adventist camp meeting in Athens, Texas. In 1963, Jimmie and Nellene married in Tyler, Texas, and then moved to Vallejo, California where they gave birth to their first bundle of joy, Venetta Swan born on October 25, 1964. After completing his service to the United States, Jimmie moved his young family to Lansing, Michigan where he was employed by Fisher Body, a division of General Motors.
After several years in Lansing Michigan, he moved his family to Tyler, Texas in 1968. He found employment at L-TV corporation. As he strived for upward mobility he secured employment at Kelly Springfield Tire Company.
After a few short years, Jimmie and Nellene celebrated the birth of their second child Kimmie Swan born on July 4, 1970. During this time Jimmie established a successful real estate enterprise under the sole proprietorship of Swan's Rentals.
In 1976, Jimmie was baptized at Sharon Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Tyler, Texas. Later in their lives, they received the surprise blessing of their son JImmell James Swan on November 25, 1985. In his spare time, he loved playing his various instruments, gardening, and enjoying the company of his grandchildren.
Preceding him in death was his father and mother, Burl Swan Sr. and Onnie Mae Swan. As well as his two sisters Sheila Mcelroy, Virginia Dehan and his brother Burl Swan Jr.
He leaves behind Nellene Swan, his loving wife of 57 years of marriage (Tyler, Texas). And two daughters Venetta Swan, (Tyler, Texas), Kimmie Swan (Mckinney, Texas) and his son Jimmell James Swan and Shalynn (Flint, Texas), Four grandchildren, Jesslyn Palmer, (Desoto, Texas), Rolando B. Williams Jr., and Devon Williams of (Mckinney, Texas), Sha'Dadrian Ford (Tyler, Texas ), Dwight M. Palmer Jr. and Isiah R. Palmer Desoto, Texas) and Reina Amyrah-Marie Williams (Mckinney, Texas); Two sisters, Alberta Hence (North Carolina), Dimple Walker (Tacoma, Washington) and Jerry Swan (Atlanta, Georgia); Along with a host of nieces and nephews and cousins.
