John Arthur
White, Sr.
March 2, 1939 – January 5, 2022
Oh, happy day! John Arthur White, Sr. was born March 2, 1939, in Tyler, Texas to the late Sydney White, Sr. and Lena Gardner White. Of 8 children John was the last baby boy. He is preceded in death by his siblings; Travis White, Theodore White, Warren George White, Dr. Sidney White, Jr., Father Joseph Bernard White, and Pearl White Wells, and great-granddaughter, Andrea Johnson.
John attended Tyler Public Schools and graduated from Emmitt J Scott High School in 1958. Upon graduating, he served as the President of the Emmitt J Scott High School Alumni Reunion Committee.
He received Christ at an early age, he was a willing and dedicated member of Saint John the Episcopal Church where he was awarded the title Bishop Warden. He was a believer and was always ready to assist in anyway.
John was united in Holy Matrimony to Lena Calton on March 2, 1964, and to this union two children were born. They were blessed to secure a total of 57 years together as husband and wife.
As a provider and hardworking man, in 1962 he began his longstanding career with People's National Bank, after numerous mergers the bank is now known as Bank of America. His career spanned a total of 42 years.
As a pillar in the community John served as a community activist for P.A.T.H, he was one of the founding members of the Neighborhood Watch Committee, he served on the Oakwood Cemetery preservation Association, he was a member of The Community Service Club, and a host of various Outreach Programs.
He leaves to cherish his loving wife of 57 years; Lena White, son; John White, Jr.(Sabrina), daughter, Sandra White Harris (Andre), his elder and only surviving sibling, Mary Elizabeth White, granddaughters; Alexandria Johnson, Jordan White, and Vanessa Ross, grandsons; John White III, and Andre Johnson(Charlesia), five great-grandchildren; Va'Daezha,Asya, Andre, Jr., Jamyah, and Avery, and a host of other relatives, friends and neighbors with whom he left a lasting impression of love.
