IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lady Tabbotha
Mcgee
October 27, 1969 – July 30, 2024
Lady Tabbotha McGee was born October 27, 1969, to parents Clarence Bailey and Sammie Doll Johnson.
She attended Tyler ISD public schools graduating from John Tyler High School #8 of over 500 graduates in the class of 1988. This enabled her to earn a full academic scholarship to UT Austin. Tabbotha was not only an academic scholar, but she was also a fierce athletic competitor and
excelled in many sports.
Tabbotha left Austin returning to Tyler to marry her high school sweetheart – Broderick McGee. Together they raised four beautiful children.
She enrolled at Tyler Junior College where she pursued and received licensure as a LVN and later RN. She then received her BSN from Jacksonville University. Tabbotha was extremely ambitious and decided to pursue a Master's degree from Walden University and passed the required competencies to become a Nurse Practitioner. She had a passion and deep desire to serve her community and was able to accomplish this through her practice at The Willow Wellness Clinic under Dr. Angela Smith where she provided excellent patient care and made a difference in the lives of all who knew her. Tabbotha's medical career extended over 25 years.
The songbird, as she was affectionally called, shared her God given talent with the world. She would travel with her grandmother and sing all over the East Texas area. Through this, The Johnson Sisters were formed, and they quickly became the sought after group to sing at various programs and musicals. Their signature song, I Don't Want No Peanut Butter and Jelly, was led by Tab and that propelled her to greatness.
Her academic and athletic pursuits and her career are only surpassed by her love of God and her family. She was a musical prodigy, and her musical legacy will continue to live on in the churches she played for, the choirs she directed, the choirs she sang with, and any other place she lent her voice in praise. She could sing any song by any artist and make it her own. When Tab sang, the atmosphere changed and shifted. She ministered from her soul and her desire was for people to know God the way she did.
There was a calling on her life that she had to answer and she accepted this call when she began her preaching ministry and MY GOD!!! When Tab preached, she commanded your attention from the time she got up until she sat down. From laughing, to crying, to shouting, to dancing, the Word went forth and many lives were changed, and souls were saved. She would mess up your makeup, and then sell you some after church as a Mary Kay consultant. Her topics were always memorable and there was always a joke somewhere...
A few of her most unforgettable topics were:
• Why Is Your But So Big?
• Giving Up is Not an Option
• I Don't Look Like What I've Been Through
• It Is What It Is
• What's Distracting You from God
• Because I Said So
Tab studied the Word and imparted what God gave her whenever she had the opportunity. She was also a great daughter, sister, wife, mother, and friend. Tab had a magnetic personality with an infectious smile and laugh. Seeing or hearing her laugh triggered a smile or laugh by others around her. She was small in stature, but her reach was enormous. She smiled with tears and humility when she was honored or remembered as a good friend or mentor.
Tabbotha answered her final call Tuesday, July 30, 2024. She was preceded in death by her grandmothers, grandfathers, her biological father, her brother, and her son; Martevian.
She leaves to cherish her memory and carry on her legacy: her husband of over thirty years, Broderick; her daughters, Natori and Shay; and son Kelton. Her mother and father, Willis and Sammie Doll Johnson. Three loving sisters, Nay, Becky, and Bea (Rodney). One grandson, Ja'lre. A special mother, Viola Camble-Cunningham. God-daughter Zury Bradley. Many nieces, nephews, cousins, family members, and friends who will continue to share her memories for years to come.
Tab ~ "Thank you for being a friend!"
