Mrs. Laverne Jackson Walker was born February 20, 1932 to the late Dorothy Jackson Lewis and Willie Jackson in Smith County, Texas of whom she was one of seven (7) children.

She attended Tyler Independent Schools where she participated in choir and the pep squad, eventually graduating from Emmett Scott High School.

She was joined in holy matrimony to Claude Walker, Sr. in 1957 and together they would raise five (5) children.

She spent the majority of her working years caring for others. Early on she held a long-time position with Coats and Brown Hospital. Later on, she continued her work as a domestic worker and a private caretaker.

In her private time Laverne enjoyed attending church, singing, shopping, talking with others (no one was a stranger), playing cards (she loved pity pat) and being in the company of friends and family.

She was a longtime member of Church of the Living God in Tyler, Texas where you would find her every Sunday (we have the hats to prove it). There she served as a member of the G.L.O.W. Society in their missionary works.

Laverne was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Claude Walker, Sr., both parents, four sisters, one brother, and one daughter-in-law, Yvonne Jackson.

She leaves to mourn her passing three sons, Gary Jackson, Claude "Tony" Walker (Sherry), and Ricky Walker (Patricia), all of Tyler, TX; two daughters, Marsha "Lisa" Evans (Vernon) of Tyler, TX, Deanah Jones (Maurice) of Garland, TX; one brother, Earl Britton of Dallas, TX; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family and friends.
