Lillian Pearl Scott Houston was born October 24, 1946 in Tyler, Texas. She was the second child born to Hosea and Lula Hampton Scott.

Lillian matriculated through the now Chapel Hill school system and graduated from Jackson High School in 1962 at the age of 14 years old. She graduated from Texas College, Class of 1966 with a Bachelors Degree in English and a minor in Physical Education. She furthered her studies were at Stephen F. Austin State University and the University of North Texas. She attained her Master's Degree in Sociology/Gerontology from East Texas State University (now, Texas A&M Commerce). Lillian was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.

Lillian and David were joined in Holy Matrimony on July 10, 1965 (56 years).

She was a Librarian Assistant at Texas College and then school Secretary at Mamie G. Griffin Elementary in the Tyler Public School System. Lillian was Assistant Professor of Sociology at Wiley College and Director of the Nursing Home Administration Program. She was a member of the board and consultant for the East Texas Council of Government on Aging, and a part of the Texas State Commission on Aging.  She was also a member of the Tyler Public Library Board. After leaving Wiley College, she returned to teach in Tyler Independent School System.

She was an entrepreneur and private business owner of the Upper Room Health Food Store and Men's and Women's Boutique.

Lillian grew up in Cole Hill Christian Methodist Episcopal Church and served as President of the Usher Board and sang in the choir. After marriage, she served as First Lady of Jones Valley Church of God in Christ and Smith Temple. She was a Missionary and evangelist and founded the First Lady's Gala.  At Smith Temple, she organized and founded the Bread in a Starving Land Ministry, feeding the hungry and providing assistance to those in need.  This ministry has continued for over 20 years.

While in college, Lillian was a member of the original Gospel Templettes, a gospel group who traveled and recorded in East Texas.  Her musical talent was incomparable; she gave recitals and performances all over the East Texas area.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Hosea and Lula Scott, her sister, Lelia Scott Bowens-Henry.

Her husband, Bishop Dr. David R. Houston, her brother, Charles R. Scott (Calvin Ann), nieces, Patience Edwards (Ken), Rachel Bowie (Vincent), Karen Christopher (Andrew), Carla Moore (Kenneth) Persephone Davis (Kirby) and Lillian MiJoi (Jeremy), all of Tyler, Texas, and a host of great nieces, nephews, relatives and friends are left to cherish her memories.
