Linda Gale
Harkless
July 4, 1952 – April 24, 2025
Linda Gale Harkless, a true light in the lives of many, passed away, leaving behind a legacy of love and dedication. Born on a memorable Fourth of July in 1952 in Tyler, Texas, to Henry Murphy Sr. and Louise Head, Linda's journey was one of nurturing hearts and shaping minds. She now joins her parents and siblings in peaceful rest.
Linda was a proud graduate of Chapel Hill High School, Southwestern Christian College, and East Texas State University, where she cultivated her passion for education. For over 29 years, she dedicated herself to teaching, becoming a guiding force for generations of students. Her classroom was more than just a place of learning; it was a space where she fostered growth, encouraged dreams, and instilled a lifelong love of knowledge.
Linda Gale Harkless was not only a dedicated educator but also a tireless worker with a deep commitment to her community. She poured significant energy into her work for Southwestern Christian College, where she was a valued alumnus. Her dedication and hard work were evident in all her endeavors.
During her time as president of the East Texas National Dinner Day Committee, Linda's passion and leadership shone brightly. A particularly proud moment during her tenure was the opportunity to award her own daughter, Natalie, with a scholarship to attend the prestigious Southwestern Christian College, a testament to Linda's belief in education and her unwavering support for her family.

In this role, she demonstrated remarkable compassion and dedication to raising awareness and supporting those affected by multiple sclerosis. Her commitment to this cause highlighted her selfless nature and her desire to make a positive impact on the lives of others.
On January 26, 1986,Linda found her perfect partner in Lonzell Lawrence Harkless, whom she affectionately called "Blue." Their marriage was a testament to enduring love and mutual respect. Together, they raised their cherished daughter, Natalie Michelle Smith (Dexter) of Tyler, who was a constant source of pride and joy.
However, it was her role as "Granny" to her three granddaughters – Zoe, Brandee, and Destiny Smith – that truly illuminated Linda's world. They were the absolute center of her universe, and she poured her heart into creating unforgettable memories and showering them with boundless affection.
Linda is survived by her beloved husband, Lonzell; her daughter, Natalie (Dexter); her treasured granddaughters, Zoe, Brandee, and Destiny; and her loving siblings, Debbie (Kelly) Brown-Pippin of Ft Leonard Wood, Mo and Leon (Tammy) Murphy of Tyler.
