IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mae Frances
Davis
September 10, 1949 – January 23, 2026
Mae Frances Davis was born September 10, 1949 in Magnolia, Arkansas to the parentage of Wade Dockery, Sr and Hattie Lee Williams. The oldest of six children, Mae Frances was a playful child who loved her family and helped raise her siblings. She was academically gifted and graduated with honors from John F. Kennedy High School in Dallas, TX in 1967. Shortly after, she went on to marry the love of her life, Johnnie A. Davis and the two moved to Chandler, TX and made it their forever home with their son Edward. Mae would often refer to Johnnie as "my love" or "my baby" and the two shared 37 years of bliss, until his passing in 2004. "Aunt Mae", as she was lovingly called, was a legend in her community and a true jack of all trades.
There wasn't anything she couldn't do! She did her own electrical work, plumbing, yardwork, upholstery, extermination, and remodeling just to name a few. She was a talented seamstress, who owned an alteration and dress shop in Tyler, TX, and made most of the wardrobe for the late J.D. Hamilton "Poppa", clothes for her son, Edward, suits, dresses, hats, and even her granddaughter. If you walked into any bedroom in her home, you would see intricately sewn valances and matching bedspreads. Beyond her talent as a seamstress, she was wonderful cook and an exceptional baker; She had her own cake decorating business, but nothing held the spotlight like her famous Teacakes. People would come from miles away to purchase her Teacakes and for those who lived further she even offered shipping!
Aunt Mae also loved to shop and thrift and was always on the hunt for a good deal; there wasn't a Goodwill, Salvation Army, or Hangers of Hope she didn't visit wherever she went. She also loved shopping at Ulta, Sephora, and every mall she visited with her granddaughters. Aunt Mae loved to watch sports and would always ask "is the game on?" before cheering faithfully for the Dallas Cowboys.
Aunt Mae was a faithful servant who loved her church, Faith Tabernacle Church of Deliverance, in Chandler, TX. Under the leadership of the late Apostle J.D. Hamilton, Sr., she served in the church by singing, leading the choir, cooking, and attending camp meetings and conventions to name a few. To know her was to know how much she loved the Lord. She never shied away from giving her testimony and throughout her health struggles still maintained that she would "never let go of His hand".
On January 23rd, 2026, surrounded by her family, Mae Frances Davis traded her earthly struggles for her heavenly reward.
She is proceeded in death by her parents Wade and Hattie Lee Dockery, husband, Johnnie A Davis, and her sister-in-law Sheila Dockery.
She leaves to cherish her legacy: her son , Edward and wife, Ann, of Tyler; granddaughters; Breauna Cravens of Dallas, Camryn, Alyssa, and Madelyn Davis of Atlanta, GA, and Jennifer Davis of Tyler, grandsons; Edward Davis Jr. and Alexander Gilmore of Tyler, and Nicholas Gilmore of Plano, sister, Marbel "Lou" Dockery of Athens, brothers; William Gene Dockery, and Wade Dockery, Jr. of Chandler ,Larry Dockery of Wiley, and David Dockery (Gloria) of Forney, special daughter; Tiffany McGee, special sisters Remona Winn (Tim) and Edna Douglas of Chandler, special nephew Delvecchio Shankle (Josette) Chandler, and a host of other nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and her Faith Tabernacle Church Family
