A Time to be Born:
Marlen Dewayne Minnick was born February 10, 1972, to Charles Minnick and Debra Minnick in Tyler, Tx.
A Time to Give Reverence to God:
Marlen was a lifelong member at Carter Temple C.M.E. Church, Tyler. He was very passionate about motivating and encouraging people. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church youth group where here frequently attended youth camp with his children.
A Time to Learn:
Marlen attended Birdwell Elementary, Hogg Middle School, Robert E. Lee High School, Tyler Junior College and Texas College. He was a graduate of the REL Class of 1990 where he played in the orchestra all four years. Marlen was also a member of the Tyler Youth Orchestra for two years.
A Time to Work:
Marlen began working at the age of 16, taking on a variety of roles throughout the years. His most recent position was as a phlebotomist at Carter Blood Care, where he served as a supervisor in the donor room. Marlen had a deep passion for caring for his patients and consistently delivered outstanding service to those donating.
A Time to Cherish:
Precious memories with his beloved wife of 25 years, July Minnick. Marlen had a life shaped by strength and discipline, where he found his rhythm in the gym with heavy weights, day after day. His passion for tennis shoes was unmatched, mostly Nike. Marlen was very proud of his white beard. Every time he went anywhere strangers were always in awe. He had a deep passion for music, turning it into a side hustle. DJing wasn't just a job for him, it was his true calling. Though he had been spinning tracks throughout his adult life, MDM Sounds was officially established in 2024.
A Time to Mourn:
He was proceeded in death by Gloria Jones (paternal grandmother), Margaret Arthur (maternal grandmother), Fredetta Moore (cousin), and Faleta Arthur (aunt).
A Time to Transition:
Marlen gained his wings on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at UT Health in Tyler. He is survived by his beloved wife, July Johnson-Minnick; his sons, Marcellus Minnick of Lufkin, TX, Jared Johnson (Kaitlyn) of Flint, TX, Caleb Johnson of San Antonio, TX, and Miles Minnick of Tyler, TX; his cherished grandchildren, Jonah Johnson and Jett Ray Johnson; his father, Charles Minnick (Janis); his mother, Debra Minnick; his sister, Monica Matlock (Teddy); and his brother, Tyson Hamilton of Overton. Host of Uncles, Aunts, Cousins and Friends.
