Services for Mattie Hilburn Ellis, 87, of Tyler are scheduled for 11:00 AM Saturday, April, 6, 2019 at St. James CME Church, with Rev. Brian Lightner officiating and Rev. Orenthia Mason eulogist. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Brooks Sterling & Garrett Funerals and Cremations. Mrs. Ellis died March 28, 2019 at Hospice of East Texas. She was born February 7, 1932 in Gilmer, Texas to Rev. James R. Hilburn and Estella Hilburn. Mattie committed her life to Christ at an early age at Moses Chapel CME Church, after moving to Tyler she became a faithful member of St. James CME Church. Mattie taught in TISD for 42 years until she retired. She was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Top Ladies of Distinction, Sophisticated Red Hatters, Tyler City Council of Church Women, Salvation Army Home League and Texas College Alumni Association. She asked that any memorial donations be made to Texas College.
