Sister Mattie Lee (Jackson) Mumphrey  born June 18, 1934 in the town of Winona, in Smith County, Texas.  She attended Dunbar school and was a faithful lifelong christian member of  Mount Zion CME Church.   Well known in the community by family and friends as "Nig, or Aunt Nig".  She left us peacefully on September 23, 2019.

She was a beloved mother, sister, aunt, cousin, sister-in-law, mother-in-law, and friend. She was the daughter of Bennie "Buck" and Rosie Mae (Mayfield) Jackson and the widow of her late husband John D Mumphrey.

She was a loyal wife and homemaker, besides her own, she cared for and raised many children in the community. Her home was the neighborhood hangout back in the day for many young people during school summers.

Mattie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 55 years John D "Chut" Mumphrey of Winona, Texas, five brothers Charlie  "Dip" Jackson (Dallas)  Wille "Neet" Jackson (Los Angeles CA), Joe Levie Jackson (Winona), Arthur Lee "Buddy" Jackson (Winona), John Lee "Bruh"Jackson (Tyler), four sisters, Flora L"Coop" (Jackson) Cooks (Dallas), Luvenia "Suah"(Jackson) Stansell, (Winona),  Geneva "Lee" (Jackson) Calico, (Winona),  Mae Joyce "Mae" (Jackson) Phillips, (Winona). Several nieces and nephews and one granddaughter Della Marie "Ree"(Lilly) Toole (Overton).

Mattie leaves to mourn her death, two brothers, Freddie"Son"Jackson (Gladewater), Willie "Will L"Jackson (Winona), three sisters, Jessie Mae "Bed"(Jackson) Henry(Fresno, CA), Arna Rae "Dunt" (Jackson) Foster (Carl) (Winona), and Rosie Mae "Hazel" Jewel Jackson (Winona).

Eight children Jesse D Mumphrey (Christine) of Winona, Yvonne M Mumphrey of White Oak, Willie J Mumphrey (LaWanda) of Winona, Cara L Mumphrey( Adolphus) of Winona, Jerry D Mumphrey (Sonya) of Paris, TX,  Evelyn J Allen of Winona, Glenda N Mumphrey of Winona, and Jody L Mumphrey of Overton, TX.

Ten grandchildren, Kendrix (Ivonne) Mumphrey of Hawkins, Jesse Mumphrey Jr of Winona, Nicole (Rodrick) Sheppard of Tyler,  Deondre Black of Tyler, Cymone Mumphrey of Tyler, Justine Elliott of Denton, Victoria Mumphrey of Greenville, Jerrion (Mumphrey)Johnson (Kadeem) of Greenville, Leah Prestwidge of Lindale, and Kiara Mumphrey of Overton. Twenty one great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
