Michael Don Givens entered this life on November 23, 1952 to Lena Pugh Givens and Thomas Jefferson Givens II. He was 2 of 7 and would prove to be the self-proclaimed "Boss" of the siblings. A very eloquently spoken individual Michael began and completed his education with in the TISD school system. Mike took pride in being a member of the last class that attended Emmett J. Scott High School. After graduating from John Tyler High School in '71, Michael went on to pursue his education by attending Tyler Junior College.  Shortly after college he began working at Tyler Pipe INC. Having his sights on something greater he joined the United States Air Force. While serving he married his high school sweetheart Elvie Rollins in '76 and to this union two girls were born. The new family settled in Plattsburgh, NY. to continue serving his country. A family tragedy brought them home to Tyler. After his tenure in the Air Force, he began working for Trane Technologies. He then entered the Oil and Gas industry working for companies like La Gloria, Baroid, and retiring from Halliburton in 2015.

Michael Don was a music connoisseur and album collector. Fluent in 3 languages, Michael was always educating others on proper subject verb agreements. Fashion was not missed on Mike. You could always find him sporting a Kangol matching every outfit he owned.

Michael was processed in death by his grandparents Thomas J. I and Annie Mae Givens; Doc and Bennie Pugh; parents Thomas J. II and Lena Givens Phelps. Those left to cherish his memory are: his wife Elvie Givens, two daughters Valerie and Che'Nitta Givens; two grandchildren Sharnae' Rivers (Chase), Michael Givens-Washington; two great-granddaughter's Rylei and Camille Rivers; six siblings: Barbara Faye Williams; Annie Pitts; Thomas Givens III; David Givens ; Vernita Renfro (Roy); Kevin Givens (Alice); two aunts Yvonne Givens Carroll, Cloedith Jackson; a very special cousin that was raised like a sister Lesa Yvonne Carroll (Willie); fourteen nieces and nephews: and a host of relatives and friends.
