Jean Cofer
February 9, 1944 – August 25, 2024
Effie Jean Cooks Cofer was born on February 9, 1944, to the late Elbert and Jewell Hampton Cooks.
She attended Jackson Elementary, T.J. Austin Elementary and graduated from Emmett J. Scott High School class of 1964.
Effie Jean gave her life to the Lord in her youth, while living in Chicago, Illinois for many years, where she cherished her mother's prayers for her. In 1980 Mother Cofer returned to Texas and married her husband Robert Cofer, the man who caught her eye and heart in her youth. God blessed them with 43 years of marriage.
Mother Cofer attended the Pentecost Church of God in Christ in Garland, Texas under the leadership of Pastor John Henry Harley.
After retirement from Richardson I.S.D., and Baylor of Garland Hospital, she returned home to Tyler, Texas where she joined The New Beginning Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Pastor Steven A. Cooper.
Effie Jean was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Robert Cofer; her brother Johnny Edd Cooks; her 2 sons Nathadus Cooks and Robert Dorsey and a grandson Sirdarin Bernard Casey.
She leaves to cherish her memories 3 daughters: Renita Cooks, Pamela Dorsey and Paula Cofer; one son Michael Dorsey; her niece Donna McGines Eneh; 8 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.
Also, to mourn her is "Midnight" her beloved cat.
