IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Oranes
Howland
February 28, 1928 – November 20, 2020
Let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. Matthew 5:16.
God gave Oranes (Tom) Howland Sr. a light that began to shine when he was born to the proud parents of Marshall Lee Howland and Rosie Lee Williams on February 29, 1928, in Anderson County, Palestine, Texas.
Mr. Howland worked for various schools within the Tyler Independent School District. He also worked for Tyler Pipe Industries, where he later retired. Throughout his lifetime, Mr. Howland enjoyed being outdoors, where he could be found building or fixing things oftentimes. In his early years, he built toys for his kids, such as tommy walkers and slingshots. Memories that they will cherish for a lifetime.
Dedicating his life to Christ, Mr. Howland and his wife, Cora Ann Howland were the cornerstone of the founding members of the Community Church of God in Christ in Tyler, TX. Trailblazers for the Lord, Deacon Howland and Missionary Howland worked tirelessly spreading the gospel. Deacon Howland was a tender-hearted, giving man that worshipped God with his whole heart. When he praised, you could see the joy in his smile as he gave praises to God while skipping across the floor.
Mr. Howland's light ceased to shine on November 19, 2020. He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Cora Ann Howland. Married on December 29, 1954, this union gave birth to 9 children in which the light will continue to shine on.
He leaves to cherish his memories six sons, Arlandus Howland, Douglas (Rusty) Davis, Oranes Howland Jr, Otis Howland (Doretha), Gregory Howland (Shenetha) and Clayton Howland (Gwen); four daughters, Dain Hunt; Sherry Walker (Claude); Marlease Lazzy Stewart (Darrell), and Ovetise Pettigrew (Robert); 28 grandchildren, one deceased; 50 great-grandchildren, one deceased and 3 great-great-grandchildren and a host of family and friends.
Oranes Howland lived a long and full life. He is loved and will be missed by many!
