IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Pastor Jerry
Wayne Granberry
March 29, 1951 – October 8, 2021
Jerry Wayne Granberry was born March 29, 1951 in Tyler, Texas. He was the third child born to Lester Bill and Etoy Brown Granberry. Jerry attended Peete Elementary, Stewart Middle School and Emmett J. Scott High School and later enrolled in the Job Corps at San Marcos, Texas. It was here that Jerry found purpose in the trades of the day being Auto Mechanic and Interior Fabrication. He also found that he had an inept ability to learn fast and comprehend even faster with in depth understanding. Upon returning to Tyler Jerry applied for a job at United Technologies where few blacks were considered for work in this plant at the time. After gaining employment through divine direction. Jerry was on his way to start in building a solid foundation for himself and his future family.
Jerry and Emma Calloway Granberry(Carthage,Texas) were joined in Holy Matrimony on June 1, 1976(46 years). To this union 2 children were born. Soon after they were led to Houston Temple Church of God In Christ where they were both saved in a revival led by Evangelist Elder J.J. Davis. Jerry would express that he had never quite heard anyone expound and articulate the mysteries of the Holy Writ in the way that Evangelist Davis did. Convinced that this is where they belonged the couple placed their membership at Houston Temple Church of God In Christ under the leadership of the incomparable Bishop W. B. Houston. Jerry loved playing the guitar, and Bishop Houston stated, "Bring your guitar to church, Just change Your Tune". Jerry would ultimately accept his call to the ministry, with his first message in 1982 being "Free At Last" gleaning his thought from Romans 8:1-2 (1)There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the spirit,(2)For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. The couple would both work tirelessly serving in the church within the music and youth departments, adhering to leadership and sound teaching, finding whatever their hands could do to edify the body of Christ. Upon the demise of Bishop W. B. Houston and after serving for 26 years. Bishop David Houston installed now Elder J.W. Granberry as pastor of Houston Temple Church of God In Christ in 2004. Stricken with sickness in that same year, Elder Granberry would not let kidney failure or heart failure slow him down from telling of the good news of the Holy message. Pastor Granberry served wholeheartedly until his death, with his last message being "Rejoice". Serving the Lord would pay off for Pastor Granberry allowing him to take time with his family to travel from coast to coast vacationing and attending church conventions in Memphis and later St. Louis. Also owning and providing for his family to be in business together..
Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Etoy Granberry, his sister Baby June Marie Granberry, his brother William Ray Granberry, his son's, Baby Jamaal Granberry and Christopher Calloway-Granberry. Jerry was also preceded in death by his parents in law M.C.Calloway and Mary Lou Evertta Calloway whom he was very fond of.
Pastor Elder Jerry W. Granberry leaves to cherish his wife Missionary Lady Emma Granberry, his son Minister Cedrick Granberry Sr(Angela), grandchildren Tykei Moore(Autela), Asia, JaMya, and Cedrick Jr., great grandchildren Khalee, Titus and Josiah LaShawn.
