Dr. Pearlia Derrick was the nineth child of ten born to S.B. and Pearl Johnson Wallace, in the Community of Bethlehem (Gilmer Texas).  She attended Bethlehem Elementary School and graduated from Valley View High School (Gilmer, TX).

Dr. Pearlia accepted Christ at an early age, where she became a member of Community Church of Gilmer, TX.  She later met and married Johnny B. Derrick (July 1953).  They were Blessed with two sons: Frederick and Lynard Derrick.

Dr. Pearlia acquired her education experiences by attending several institutes, which included Florida Memorial College receiving her Bachelor's degree (1961); Tuskegee Institutereceiving her Master's degree (1966); and Texas Women's University where she received her Doctorate of Education (1973).

Dr. Pearlia and her husband J.B. shared the love and enthusiasm of the family, the more the merrier. Both enjoyed large family and played active roles in the lives of their children, grandchildren, as well as with their nieces and nephews. Love of family was well-ingrained in their hearts. They also loved working in the church, travelling and attending annual family dinners.

Dr. Pearlia had 5 brothers, and 3 sisters, her parents and the Love of her Life J.B Derrick who preceded her in death.

Dr. Pearlia is survived by their sons, Frederick and Lynard of Tyler TX.  One sister – Mins. Dora Lee Jones, of Dallas, TX, and a host of Grandchildren, Great-Grand Children; Nieces and Nephews and other family and friends.

Dr. Pearlia's life span of 92 years touched and impacted the lives of many.
