Roger Lynn Bailey was born in Tyler, TX May 31, 1956, to the late James and Eldoris Taylor- Bailey. He was the fourth of seven children.

As a youth, Roger attended Pine Hill Baptist Church and later served at Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of his father, Rev. James F. Bailey.

Roger attended Hogg Middle School and graduated from Robert E. Lee High School, Class of 1974, where he excelled both academically and athletically. He was a proud member of the basketball team, known for his determination and teamwork. Roger was truly awesome on the court, leaving his mark both at Hogg Junior High and Robert E. Lee High School. Known as a gentle giant off the court, he transformed into a relentless competitor whenever the game began. At Hogg, Roger anchored the Razorbacks as their center, leading the team to an undefeated 10–0 season and securing the first-ever city championship in school history.

His dominance and determination set the tone for what would become a remarkable career. Continuing at Lee High School, Roger excelled again at the center position. In his senior year, he helped drive the team to an impressive 23–11 record, cementing his reputation as a player who gave everything for his team.

It was at Robert E. Lee High School that Roger met his lifetime partner, Marcus Ann Langley. They were united in marriage on March 8, 1981, and together they welcomed their only son, Jakyron Montori Bailey, who became the heartbeat of their lives.

Roger continued his education at Tyler Junior College, where he pursued studies in pharmacy and nurtured his passion for learning. During those years, he also discovered a love for photography, capturing moments that reflected his thoughtful spirit.

Roger retired from his career with Schlumberger and was able to devote more time to his family and his creative pursuits. He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Marcus Ann Langley-Bailey, and his sister Margie Lu Stewart.

Roger leaves to cherish his memory: his son, Jakyron Bailey; sisters Shirley Miles, Ylonda Bailey, and Marilyn Pettigrew; brothers James Bailey (Ely), Samuel Bailey (Somaly), brother-in- law Robbie Stewart (late) Margie Stewart; brothers-in-law, Roger H.W. Langley (Dr. Dorothy), Danny Paul Langley (Michelle) and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. He will be remembered as a kind and gentle spirit whose heart overflowed with compassion. His legacy of love, faith, and resilience will continue to inspire all who knew him.
