Ruby Gossett was born August 25, 1915, in Tyler Texas to Reedy Gardner and Sammie Wade. After the death of her mother at an early age, she lived with her Aunt Eddie B. Wade-King and Grandmother, Mariah Wade.

Ruby received her education in Tyler, Texas. She was a graduate of Emmett J. Scott High School, and later received a Bachelor of Science degree from Butler College.

In 1935, she married her childhood friend, the late Virgil Gossett for 71 years. From this union five children were born: Edsel (deceased), Johnny, Naomi (deceased), Virgie and Robert.

Ruby was a Smith County 4H Organizational Leader, which helped youth in the community build leadership skills. She also worked for the Crockett State School for Girls and worked with the Tyler Food and Nutrition Program.

Ruby joined church at an early age and was a member of the St. Louis Baptist Church most of her life. She was a Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher and was also active in other various ministries: Deaconess, Sanctuary Choir, Women'sMinistry. In addition, she was a member of the East Texas Baptist Association and past president of the Texas Extension Educational Association.

Ruby's nick name was "Sugar Cake". It truly describes her character. She was a sweet and humble person. Those who knew her would describe her as a strong, funny, warm, chatty (she loved to talk), generous, wise, spirit-filled woman ; s he was no stranger to those she met. She had many friends, young and old. As a fashionable woman, she often kept up with the latest styles and colors; she loved wearing many hats and scarves. Ruby also loved plants and flowers of all kinds; she was like many of her flowers: bright, lovely, and beautiful.

Ruby was devoted to her family; she loved and treasured her family and friends. She was the matriarch of the Wade family.

It was her faith that kept her through the many trials and tribulations of life; praying and praising the Lord was a daily priority. Proverbs 3: 5-6 was one of her favorite anchor scriptures.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Virgil Gossett, daughter Naomi Gossett, son Edsel Gossett, and 7 siblings.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories, her sons Johnny and Robert Gossett; daughter Virgie (Charles) Williams; daughter-n-law Joyce Gossett; 9 grandchildren: Robert Dwayne, Tiffany Pinto, Tamika Gossett, Shelia Warren, Johnny Gossettjr., Teresa Wietzikoski, Robert E. Gossett, LaMetra Williams, Eric Williams; 9 great grandchildren; 9 great-great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
