IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Sebastian Dewayne
Roberson
October 23, 1962 – February 8, 2023
Sebastian Dewayne Roberson was born on October 23, 1962 in Athens, TX to Jeanette Hill and SD Roberson. He attended Lakeview Centennial High School for 3 years, and finished the end of his senior year at Athens High School, from which he graduated in 1981.
Sebastian played football for O'Banion Middle School and Lakeview Centennial High School, both in Garland, TX. He had an infectious sense of humor, was well-liked, and acquired many meaningful friendships during his school years and throughout his lifetime. He always spoke well of his family and wanted everyone to know he loved them.
Many of Sebastian's family and friends knew him by the name "Checkmate" or just "Check". The origin of this was at birth. When he was born, his 5yr. old cousin, Manford Hill, wasn't confident he could pronounce Sebastian's name, so he just asked his Aunt Jeanette (Sebastian's mom) if he could call him "Checkmate". The answer was yes, and the rest is history.
Sebastian loved to go fishing , which was ironic because he was severely allergic to fish! It is apparent that he enjoyed the tranquility and loved being out there in nature by the water. He was also an amazing artist. He created beautiful sketches and drawings, which exuded his talent. His sketches were a special gift from him to anyone who received one.
Sebastian grew up in the Dallas/Garland area with his mom and bonus father, Arthur Nickerson. He spent his young adult years in Athens, TX living with his grandmother, Allean Hill. Later, he moved to Bryan, TX where he spent the last 30 years of his life with his very significant friend , Annie Gray (known as Bonnie), and he adopted her family as his own.
Sebastian faithfully studied the Bible in his later years, and actively took notes. He had accepted Christ earlier in life, and confirmed even the day before his passing that he was assured of his salvation. For this reason, we are comforted , knowing that when he left here he was greeted in heaven.
Sebastian was preceded in death by his father, SD Roberson; and his grandparents: Allean & Larkin A. Hill, Sr., and Pearlie Mae & AD Roberson.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his parents Jeanette & Arthur Nickerson of Garland, TX; stepmother Mae b ell Roberson of Irving, TX; s iblings: Adrian Roberson of Heath, TX, Aundria Nickerson of Garland TX, and Dee Ann Roberson of Irving, TX; stepsister Davana Williams of Irving, TX; aunt Rubye Nell Roy; nieces & nephews: Travien , Kailynn , Jarius , Des tinie , Chief, K'yanna , Dominick, Isaiah, Danielle, Michaela, and Skylon; significant friend Annie Gray & her children: Detron , Demetria, DeQuesha , Derrick, Darvin, and Darrell ; as well as a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family, and friends.
