Mr. Wendell K. Day was born on October 5, 1950 in Tyler, Texas to the parentage of Hoyle and Lucinda Day. He grew up in Dallas and Tyler, Texas. After moving to Tyler, Wendel joined Miles Chapel C.M.E church at an early age. He attended schools in Dallas and Tyler. His elementary education began at Colonial Hill in Dallas, Texas. Then in Tyler he attended Griffin elementary, Dogan Middle School and graduated from Emmett Scott High School. At Emmett Scott High School he led the basketball team to a State Championship in 1968. He was inducted into the Tyler ISD Athletic Hall of Fame on September 8, 2018. Wendell also attended Tyler Junior College in Tyler, Texas and Bishop College in Dallas, Texas.
Wendell was a retired roofer and construction worker.
Mr. Day was preceded in death by his parents Hoyle and Lucinda Day. He is survived by his loving family, one brother William E. Day (Brenda) Cedar Hill, Texas; four sisters, Sandra Day Campbell (John) Dallas, Texas, Zandra E. Day and Shelia L. Day both of Tyler, Texas, and Angelia L. Brown (Darryl) Cedar Hill, Texas; four nephews, four nieces, and seven great nephews and nieces. He also leaves behind brothers- in law, sister-in-law; a special friend Karen Stephens and a host of cousins, relatives and friends.
